IMAGINE Celebrates Year 5: NEW SPONSORS!

MARCH 4 2008

Visions of Science Network For Learning’s IMAGINE Contest series is celebrating its 5th anniversary. The ground-breaking competition series, features a short story and poster art contest for kids and teens, in the science-fiction and fantasy genre. The IMAGINE Contest challenges kids and young adults to envisage futuristic or fantastic landscapes where ethnic characters are the protagonists.

The IMAGINE Contest targets multi-cultural youth between grades 6-12. The annual IMAGINE Anthology is a compilation of the best entries to the contest. The 2010 Anthology will feature stories written by past winners of the Contest from the last five years and will be posted online at www.vosnl.org/imagine.

Meanwhile IMAGINE has attracted two new major sponsors to its corps of prominent corporate sponsors: The Canadian Multicultural Inventors Museum (CMIM) and International African Inventors Museum (IAIM). Other sponsors include Kisko Freezies, Bakka Pheonix Bookstore, The Silver Snail, and 3M Canada.

Coordinator for IMAGINE Nicole Georges-Bennett says besides new sponsors, the competition will feature new themes. “Our 5th Grade Poster Art contest theme is: How Alien Organs Work”; while the 7th-9th grade poster contest theme is “The Mask”. IMAGINE is just one of the ways Visions of Science is making science themes fun and accessible to kids. We’re thrilled that our efforts are attracting support from business sponsors.”

The IMAGINE sci-fi/fantasy short story and Poster art competition runs from May 1 to October 23, 2010. Prizes valued at over $1000 will be awarded November 5, 2010.
