Position: VoSNL Science Club Lead Facilitators
Reports to: Executive Director, VoSNL and Program Coordinator
Position Description

The VoSNL Community Science Club (VCSS) is an innovative and exciting after school program and weekend program within the GTA. It provides fun and stimulating interactive science activities to help inspire youth to develop critical thinking skills that lead to lifelong learning.

Working closely with the Executive Director, Program Coordinator, Volunteer Co-coordinator and the Head of the VoSNL Science committee, the VCSS Lead Facilitators deliver these programs at community locations.

This is an afternoon or weekend part-time position requiring up to 4 hours/week for 24 weeks. The program runs for 8 weeks from October to December and for 16 additional weeks from January to May. Normal working hours are Saturdays 11.00 am to 1.00 pm and Week days from 4.00 pm to 6.00 pm depending on the location. There are 2 additional hours for planning and managing the science club.

Key Responsibilities
  • Present interactive demos and lead activities for grade 5 – 8 students
  • Provide students with a fun, awesome, wow, memorable, “out of home” experience
  • General classroom management. Prepare and clean up all materials and resources required to deliver program
  • Co-ordinate volunteers, Ensure that all volunteers placed at your site receive proper orientation and training
  • Ensure that the efforts of volunteer tutors are adequately recognized
  • Track volunteer progress and evaluates volunteer performance
  • Co-ordinate field trips for science club participants
  • Keep thorough records. Complete quarterly, annual, and other reports as required by supervisor
  • Maintains current and updated science club schedules and ensures all room/space reservations and setups are scheduled and approved without conflict
  • Maintains constant contact with all science club volunteers and informs them of all changes in schedules and rooms
  • Ensures that all cancellations will be dealt with in a prompt and orderly manner that includes calling all participants and making notation of the cancellation in all appropriate areas
  • Maintain supplies inventory
Qualifications
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills are a necessity
  • Must be self-motivated, responsible and able to perform before audiences of varying size and composition
  • Must possess a keen interest in science
  • Experience working with children
Honorarium
  • $ 10.00 per hour (maximum of 4 hours per week)
