Visions of Science Network for Learning (VoSNL) announces the 17th Annual Visions 2008 Science Symposium and the 2nd Annual Science Fair on Saturday May 10th, 11am – 5pm, at the Medical Science Building, 1 Kings College Circle University of Toronto. Visions 2008 will highlight the many achievements of African Canadians in the field of science and technology from the early 19th century to the present day and exciting interactive workshops and seminars for the young and the old. Visions of Science Network for Learning Science Fair will host over 150 participants, from Grade 5 to Grade 9, who participate in the weekly science and technology activities at the fifteen Science Clubs hosted by Visions of Science around the GTA. For the first time, the science fair will host student participation from local Afrocentric schools and independent faith based private schools in the community. The students will exhibit their projects and received prizes, ribbons and certificates for their projects; all of them have received important learning opportunities.

Visions of Science Network for Learning will be participating in the first ever “Science Rendezvous”.
This will be a city-wide event that will open Universities and College’s across Toronto and the GTA to provide an opportunity for the local community to come out to see and hear what some of our fine minds are doing in the area’s engineering, science, health sciences, social sciences, business and humanities. This doors open event will feature science and technology related event around the city and Visions 2008 will be one of it main featured events at the University of Toronto.

The Exhibits

This year Visions 2008 brings together exhibits and exhibitors who will showcase how science coexists with our everyday life through healthcare, entertainment, recreation, communication, food and nutrition. Over 400 plus Middle school and High School students will be in attendance at Visions 2008 on Saturday, May 10th, Visions 2008 is open to the public and parents are encouraged to bring the whole family to this fun-filled and innovative symposium and science fair, which caters to everyone from 5 to 95. The symposium will feature:

  • Dr. Winston Scott, former NASA astronaut and author of Reflections from Earth Orbit - Read bio
  • Mr. Bob McDonald, the host of Quirks & Quarks, CBC Radio - Read bio
  • Dr. Mercedes Richards, Professor, Department of Astronomy & Astrophysics Pennsylvania State University
  • Mr. Errol Gibbs, Mechanical Engineer, Project Management consultant & author
  • The International African Inventors Museum
