Long Term Opportunities

Community STEM Club Facilitator

Our main volunteering opportunity is within our Community STEM Clubs program as a volunteer facilitator. Please note that you will be required to obtain a police vulnerable sector check.

Commitment

Every Saturday (with the exception of holidays) from 10:30 A.M. to 1:30 P.M.* as the assigned club location.

Term 1: October 6- December 1, 2018, Term 2: January 12 to May 4, 2019 

*Timing may vary slightly based on club location

We are looking for...

  • Post Secondary students (2nd year and higher*) in STEM and/or education disciplines. We also consider applicants in child and youth care programs or equivalent

  • Individuals with a passion for STEM learning and community development

  • Individuals that have a desire to work with youth and engage communities

*Applicants in first year or high school are welcome to apply and will be considered based on the strength of their application

As a facilitator, you will…

  • Engage a consistent group of youth and create a positive learning environment

  • Work within a team to deliver STEM workshops and experiments within our respective communities

  • Engage youth in guest speaker workshops and field trips

  • Serve as a mentor to youth

  • Receive training in workshop material, facilitation techniques, working within a team and engaging target youth

You will develop skills in…

  • Leadership

  • Facilitation and teaching

  • Community engagement, development and outreach

  • Communication

  • Teamwork and collaboration

  2. Attend a regional Info Session

  3. Upon completion of the second stage, you must fulfill all requirements and be available to attend the mandatory training session on September 29 at University of Toronto St. George

Short Term Opportunities

If you would like to contribute to our organization but are unable to commit to the weekly Community STEM Clubs program, there are many other ways to get involved!

Events

We hold several major events throughout the year including: the Visionary Gala, the Visionary Expo (at the Ontario Science Centre), Science Rendezvous, Science Literacy Week, Science Odyssey and many more! Event volunteers are responsible for assisting on the day of event. Specific assignments and instructions are available on our Volunteer Portal. 

Current Opportunities - Science Literacy Week

From September 17-21 2018, we will be hosting pop-up science workshops in communities across the Toronto area as part of Science Literacy Week. We're using fun, hands-on games and activities to bring science to the community. This year's theme is Outer Space!
